Winter is a ritual performance practitioner, vocal composer & facilitator based in Gwynedd. They dedicate their work towards collective liberation through the power of collective resonance & human co-creation with the land. Co-founding queer SW collective FemmeDaemonium in 2015, Winter began to focus on magical ritual as the tenet of deep listening in community as a means to organise against systems of oppression. Using the voice as a channelling tool, Winter works with their own Hebridean roots to ask the question - why does our western society abandon ancestral ties in search of otherness, and what impact does this have globally? Their work has been showcased by Open Senses festival (2017) Camden People’s Theatre: Skinned Live Fest (2018),Uncensored Festival (2019) Cabaret Bizarre (2018-present) Heal Festival. This year Winter has been working in collaboration with vocal collective My Blood Is My Voice; showcasing a gig theatre piece at Ugly Duck in April. Also collaborating with Melissandre Varin on Dirty Nails at Eastside Projects in June with vocal grief work in solidarity with Palestine, Sudan & DRCongo.
Over the summer of 2024 Winter will be carrying out a research period on grief in relationship to the element of water in Highland folklore at funded residency space TUO TUO in preparation for their walking pilgrimage across Scotland in November. From directing and devising to workshop facilitation and performing, Winter is interested in collaborative processes of creating presence as a through-route to societal healing.
